Drafting Corset Fashion Designs: How To Get Perfect Edges

Getting a nice fluid edge to your corset is important whether you’re drafting a pattern of your own or altering a pattern to your size. This is how I do it. For pictures of my corset fashion designs and sewing patterns for them, check out my corset sewing patterns page.

When you alter a corset pattern, that change invariably leads to the top and/or bottom edge of the corset not lining up. Sometimes you can get away with evening things up on the mockup or with small changes to two pattern pieces. Other times, as is more common with corset fashion designing, the difference is more drastic. This generally requires all the pieces of the corset pattern to be lined up and a new edge drawn. This video shows how I’ve done just that with a corset design of mine; lining up the pattern seams from the waist to the edge before redrawing that edge. If you’d like to check out some of my designs you can find all of my corset patterns at the above link.
